Celebrating Volunteers - May 2013

1st – 7th June is Volunteers’ Week, celebrating the fantastic contribution that millions of volunteers make across the UK.

Much of what we have managed to achieve would not have been possible without the tireless efforts of the many people who have contributed their time and energy to the Rum cause.  From the board of volunteer Directors which manage the affairs of the Isle of Rum Community Trust to the conservation volunteers who have helped Ranger Mike out in the wildlife garden and with the rhododendron eradication programme – and not forgetting the myriad small things people do every day to keep our community ticking over and our village lovely.

We want to say a big THANK YOU to all our volunteers over the past 12 months, with a particular shout out to the following:

Gordon, Kyle, Peter, Mike & Artur for their rhodie-bashing efforts;

Chris for helping to tame the wildlife garden;

Kinloch Castle Friends Association - especially Catherine, Mairi, David, Ewan, and Andrew - for their help erecting the community polytunnel;

Ali and Jinty for managing the kabins so efficiently;

George Logan for his endlessly patient help with the website.

Mike the Ranger can always use an extra pair of hands in the wildlife garden or community woodland – if you’re planning a visit to Rum and want to do something practical while you’re here, drop him an email to see if he can put you to work somewhere:
